Climatic testing and verification play an increasingly important role in product and component testing ensuring that stringent customer and industry standard specifications are met.
A good enclosure of electrical or electronic equipment is intended to operate in difficult environments, where dust, corrosive substances, moisture or water can penetrate. It is of the utmost importance in reducing the risks of electric shock, fire or explosion to perform climatic testing.
We have developed and tested engineering samples and prototype models, parts, and components, to finished products across a wide range of application and Industries such as Aerospace/Avionics, Appliances, Automotive, HVAC, Industrial/Machinery and Life Science/Medical.
The effects of product exposure to climate-related conditions are modeled and tested through the use of special test chambers. Our Environmental Research Lab has equipment and chambers that can be programed to cover wide extreme of environmental conditions as well as constant temperature and humidity levels for long periods of time.
Our Environmental Research Lab’s capability is to test and verify product performance in any condition from rain testing through spray water and water jets to permanent submersion in a pressure vessel.
We test in house for various IP classification and degrees of protection for products.
Our testing capabilities include.
- Rain IP X4
- Spray water IP X5
- Splash water IP X6
- Immersion/ submersion into water IP X7
- Water pressure tank up to 40 meters’ depth (IP X8) (outsourced)
- Additional with high pressure cleaner for special applications (IP X9) (outsourced)
Ingress water protection (IP)
Depending on IP classification our lab can test parts with a water jet equipped with various nozzle diameters, water flow rate and distance from the DUT and application time. Compliance to a specific Class IP requires that no water has penetrated the connector so to ensure satisfactory operation of the product and does not present a safety risk.
Immersion Testing
Immersion or submersion testing is performed on a wide variety of products to ensure proper sealing was done to prevent water intrusion. Our lab’s performs testing and measures the exact amount of water if any that has leaked inside.
UV testing
UV radiation can impact the performance of products and components and is a common problem in products exposed to sunlight. Many natural and synthetic polymers are attacked by ultra-violet radiation and products using these materials may crack or disintegrate if they’re not UV-stabilized.
Our engineering and lab experts test our products for exposure to UV radiation that match the conditions and application environment of the product as well as ensure compliance to international standards.
In the testing process, products and components are subjected to ultraviolet light exposure in a controlled environment with a solar simulator used to create ultraviolet radiation and simulate months or years of exposure.
International standards like i.e. EN 61439-1 Resistance to ultra-violet (UV) radiation.
The effects of UV degradation on materials that require a long service life can be measured with accelerated exposure tests. UV light is present in sunlight and can cause chemical reactions in certain materials.
Corrosive environments can have a dramatic impact on performance, product life and cosmetic appearances, as corrosive elements can dramatically accelerate the ageing process. All materials degrade over time, regardless of whether your products are manufactured from metallic or non-metallic materials.
With our in-house corrosion test equipment we can replicate application environments and conduct accelerated testing in just days or at most weeks that will simulate the impact of year’s exposure.
We custom build jigs and fixtures our in-house capabilities to meet product requirements.
- Accelerated Corrosive Testing
- Quantified Results against Recognized Standards
- High Temperature Ageing Testing
- Humid Heat Testing
- Combined Temperature and Humidity Testing
- Life Assessments
- Ingress Resistance Testing
Sand & Dust Chamber
Industrial products are typically exposed to several environmental conditions in addition to the typical temperature, humidity and corrosion. A very high degradation can be attributed to exposure to sand, dust and rain. Our engineers utilize a wide range of test methods and chambers to test product compliance to various international standards and or customer specific tests.
With our state of the art sand and dust test chamber we are able to reproduce all the conditions included in these various standards requiring continuous ventilation (DIN 40046, MIL-STD 331 AND MIL-STD 810 C), dust drop tests (DIN 40052) and tests with irregular whiff of compressed air (SAE J 575).
We can create desert like conditions or the air blast from a helicopter rotor blades with the abrasion and erosion of sand and dust, combined with temperature to meet the most demanding operating environments.
Rain Test Chamber
Chambers for rain tests are manufactured according to DIN specifications
Temperature & Humidity Chamber
Dramatic impact on the performance degradation due to temperature and humidity can have a serious negative Impact on products life cycle. Materials and circuitry can degrade over time and the effects of aging are accelerated when exposed to environments of varying climatic conditions. At multiple facilities we have invested in extensive environmental research labs with a state-of-the-art climatic test equipment enabling any test condition to virtually any temperature and humidity related testing requirements.
We cover wide range of temperature profiles between -60 degrees C and 180 degrees C, with humidity levels up to 99% available across temperature range. Our extended testing platforms are used as an integral part of the product development process from simple one-off tests through to fully managed product validation schedules. With support of in-house tooling design center, customer specific fixtures are designed to specific requirements.
